Junior Development Program 2010

It is very rewarding to watch young boys and girls grow, not only as golfers, but as human beings as well. The values associated with the great game of golf – respect for the game, respect for others, respect for the golf course, respect for the rules, integrity and etiquette of the game become the building blocks of their characters as they grow through their adolescent years.

Under the guidance and direction of C.P.G.A. Head Professional Jeff Moore, the Flamborough Hills Golf and Country Club Junior Development Program has been created to introduce and promote the game of golf to boys and girls from the ages of 10 to 18. The program will include the following:

Junior DevelopmentPlaying Privileges

All Junior Members will be entitled to play seven days per week, anytime after 11:00 a.m. If accompanies by an adult, Junior Members will be permitted to play before 11:00 a.m. Tee times can be booked on line or by calling the pro-shop at 905-627- 1743.

Instruction

After the Victoria Day long weekend in May formal instruction will begin for all Junior Members every Thursday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and will run until Thursday June 24th. All Junior Members are encouraged to attend and will be expected to sign up in advance at the pro-shop for the clinic and time they wish to attend.

Once school is finished, the instructional clinics will take place on Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and will run until Thursday August 19th. Similarly, all Junior Members will be encouraged to attend and will be expected to sign up in advance with the pro-shop for the clinic and time they wish to attend.

After each clinic, all Junior Members will be encouraged to play with their fellow members. Those wishing to play will be put into groups. All clinics will include an emphasis on the basic fundamentals of golf, including both the short game and long game. The learning environment will be both fun and relaxing which will make skill acquisition easier.

Saturday Afternoons

Every Junior Member will be encouraged to play a friendly round of golf with their fellow members on Saturday afternoons at 1:00 p.m.. Head Professional Jeff Moore will be present to organize the Junior Members into groups, and will play with a different group each Saturday. This is a great way to assess the Junior Golfer’s skill development under course conditions and to provide instructional assistance that cannot be otherwise be taught on the driving range (golf course management). If the golf course is not available, a clinic on the driving range and short game area will take place.

Junior Events

As a Junior Member at Flamborough Hills, you have an identification number that allows you to book tee-times on line and post and track all your scores for handicap purposes. We are encouraging all Junior Members to post all their scores to establish a handicap – you require five scores to create a handicap but it becomes more accurate when you have twenty rounds posted. We plan to have a Junior Match Play Championship as well as a Junior Better Ball Championship, with a qualifying day for each. The dates for these events will posted as soon as we have enough Juniors with established handicaps.

Parent and Child Tournaments

Once a month, a parent and child tournament will be held. The cost for each event will be $50.00, which will include golf, lunch and prizes. The dates for this years tournaments are as follows:

  • Sunday June 27th – 9:00 a.m.
  • Sunday July 25th – 9:00 a.m.
  • Sunday August 29th – 9:00 a.m.
  • Sunday September 26th – 9:00 a.m.

Parent and/or Grandparent Guest Privileges

As a Junior Member at Flamborough Hills Golf and Country Club, you will be allotted five complimentary rounds of golf for your parents and/or grandparents. This is a great way for you and your family to spend some quality time together on the golf course.
